How to read a bank's Schedule of Bank Charges for card fees

A Schedule of Bank Charges (SOBC) is the bank's official price list. For a card, find the row for your exact card name, then read the footnotes under the table, because the waivers are usually there. Check that the document covers the current half-year, Jan to Jun or Jul to Dec, and look for an addendum for your customer segment.

This guide explains each fee type and uses real examples from the 212 cards in our data.

What the document is and where banks publish it

A Schedule of Bank Charges is the bank's own price list for every product. Banks call it a SOBC, a SOC (Schedule of Charges) or, for Islamic arms, an ISOBC. Credit cards and some accounts also get a Key Fact Statement (KFS), a short sheet that repeats the main fees. All of these are PDFs on the bank's website, and the file name usually includes the half-year it covers.

Askari's website blocks automated downloads, so we read its credit card addendum through an archived copy and its Priority addendum from a copy we were given directly. If a bank's PDF is hard to find, search its site for the file name pattern in the example column.

For a card, find the row for your exact product name, then read the notes under the table. The waiver conditions are usually in the notes and not in the row.

The Jan to Jun and Jul to Dec cycle

Most banks issue a new schedule twice a year, one for Jan to Jun and one for Jul to Dec. Fees can rise or fall between editions, and waiver rules can change too. A card page that has not been updated may still show the old figure.

Askari's credit card addendum, effective July 10, 2026, is a good example. Every annual fee went up, and the waiver rule changed from a 70% waiver on 50% utilisation within three months to a 50% waiver within two months. The basic World card lost its waiver entirely.

PlatinumRs 19,500Rs 20,500Rs 10,000 to Rs 11,000
WorldRs 23,000Rs 25,000Rs 12,500 to Rs 14,000

Al Baraka's Mastercard Gold debit card moved from Rs 4,500 to Rs 5,000 in the Jul to Dec 2026 schedule. Check the date on the first page before you rely on any figure, and compare it with the current half-year.

Our fee data comes from Jul to Dec 2026 schedules wherever the bank has published one. A few records, such as Askari's debit cards, still use the Jan to Jun 2026 SOC because we could not find a newer edition. They are the most likely to be out of date.

Annual, joining, supplementary and replacement fees

The annual fee is charged every year. Among the 184 cards in our data that charge one, the figures run from Rs 99 (the JazzCash Mastercard debit card) to Rs 45,000 (the Meezan and UBL Visa Infinite debit cards), with a median of Rs 3,900.

The joining or issuance fee is charged once. Our data lists one for 71 cards, and 46 of those are above zero. On 22 cards it equals the annual fee. Meezan's Master Classic debit card charges Rs 3,500 to issue and Rs 3,500 a year. The JazzCash Mastercard debit card charges Rs 99 a year but Rs 999 to issue. Some banks print a single combined line instead. Standard Chartered's PayPak debit card is one Rs 2,800 "annual/issuance" fee, and Soneri's is Rs 3,000.

The supplementary fee covers a second card on your account. Of the 132 cards with a supplementary fee above zero, 106 charge less than the primary card and 26 charge the same. Bank Alfalah's Visa Platinum credit card is Rs 23,000 for the primary card and Rs 11,500 for a supplementary one. Habib Metro's Visa Gold debit card is Rs 4,400 for both.

The replacement fee applies to a lost or damaged card. We do not store it on each card page, so read the schedule row. In Askari's January 2026 SOC the Classic credit card is Rs 900 to replace and the Classic Visa debit card is Rs 3,000. UBL's Visa Infinite debit card is Rs 1,800.

FED and other taxes

Schedules usually quote a fee as an amount "plus FED", meaning Federal Excise Duty added on top. Some add "sales tax" or "ST" as well. The amount charged to your account is higher than the amount in the table. The rate is set by federal law, not by the bank.

Banks treat the tax differently when they waive a fee. UBL and Bank AL Habib both state that FED on a reversed annual fee is not reversed. Easypaisa quotes its Rs 1,000 issuance fee as inclusive of tax, so no extra is added. KonsaCard records the amount each schedule lists. If the schedule says plus FED, the FED is on top of our figure.

Addendums and segment pages

An addendum amends the main schedule for one product or customer segment, and it can undo what the main table says. Three cases from our data show how.

  • Askari's Priority addendum, effective July 1, 2026, makes issuance, replacement and the annual fee free on the Signature Visa debit card. The January 2026 SOC listed Rs 18,000 for the annual fee. The addendum also says that a downgraded customer pays Rs 5,500 plus FED every quarter until the Priority criteria are met again.
  • HBL's Premium addendum waives 100% of the Mastercard World debit card fee in year one and 50% from year two, which replaces the plain 50% line in the main SOBC.
  • UBL's product page calls its Infinite and Signature debit cards free. The SOC table lists Rs 45,000 and Rs 25,000, and says the cards are free only while you keep Signature Priority Banking (Rs 3,000,000 quarterly average balance). We record the table figure and note the waiver.

The Askari example is why our guide on annual fee waivers shows both the fee and the condition. A card that is free while you hold a balance and costly when you do not behaves like two different products.

A checklist for reading a card's fees

  • Check the edition. It should say Jan to Jun or Jul to Dec of the current year.
  • Find the row for your exact card name and network (Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay or PayPak).
  • Write down the annual, joining, supplementary and replacement fees separately.
  • Read the footnotes under the table for waivers, free first years and account-specific terms.
  • Search the bank's site for an addendum covering your segment (Priority, Premium, Prestige, payroll).
  • Add FED or sales tax to each figure unless the schedule says the amount includes tax.
  • Look for a fee that starts if you fall below a balance, such as Meezan's Rs 2,200 or Rs 3,750 monthly charge on World and Infinite.

Where a bank publishes nothing, our data holds a blank. Three cards have no annual fee published: MCB's Visa Signature debit card, MCB's PayPak debit card and UBL's Visa FCY Business debit card (priced only in foreign currency, from USD 15 a year). The eligibility guide covers the matching gaps in salary and balance thresholds, and the methodology page explains how we handle them.

To see the schedule figures next to each card's discounts, open the tool. Each card shows its annual fee and any waiver rule.

Frequently asked questions

What does SOBC stand for?

Schedule of Bank Charges. Some banks use SOC for Schedule of Charges, and Islamic banks may add an I, as in ISOBC. They are all the same kind of document.

When do new schedules take effect?

Editions run Jan to Jun and Jul to Dec. Addendums can take effect at other dates. Askari's credit card addendum, for example, is effective July 10, 2026.

Why does a product page say free when the schedule shows a fee?

The product page may describe the fee for a qualifying segment only. UBL's Infinite debit card is called free on its page, while the SOC lists Rs 45,000 and waives it only for Signature Priority Banking customers. The schedule is the document that governs.

Are the fees on KonsaCard before or after FED?

We record the amount each schedule lists. When the schedule says plus FED, the FED is added on top of our figure. Easypaisa's issuance fee is quoted including tax.
